Once upon a time, we captured God
By Edwina Gately
Once upon a time, we captured God….
We caught God!
And we put God in a beautiful box.
It was the best kind of box, it was
made of gold
There were velvet curtains around
the box and we put some flowers and candles there
and we said to the people come, come
and see where God is….
And on a certain day, once a week,
the people came, into this special place…
this special house where God was… in the box
And when they came into this certain
place, they dressed in certain ways
and they behaved in different ways…
they began to creep and to be
hushed and quiet.
They made all kinds of gestures,
and they kept their heads down and they whispered…
”look, see, God is in the box.”
And they were very, very quiet…
Then, when it was over, when it was
time to go home, out they went out into their businesses, the streets and
markets and returned to their lives.
But on that one day they would be
different.
Then, one day, not that very long
ago,
the great spirit of God, in the beautiful
gold ornate box, pushed open the doors
and out she looked.
She looked around the great grey stone
cathedral
and she said….
“There’s nobody here….”
“They’ve all gone….”
I will go and find my people
and then apparently, she slipped
out of the box….
and I understand that she has been
sited recently at McDonalds with a bag lady …
